Cervical Cancer Prevention Laboratory Specialist

Overview:

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments and community leaders to provide high-quality health care for their people. Jhpiego develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems, and improving delivery of care.  Jhpiego is currently implementing two USAID-funded projects in Indonesia – MCGL and MPHD.

 

Jhpiego seeks a Cervical Cancer Prevention (CECAP) Laboratory Specialist to oversee and manage the day-to-day activities related to lab strengthening for HPV DNA testing for cervical cancer prevention as well as collection and transportation of samples from facility level to testing site in Surabaya district.   This CECAP project is one of the implementation research efforts being implemented under the USAID-funded MCGL program, in support of the Indonesia Ministry of Health’s primary health care vision and strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Support capacity building in cervical cancer HPV DNA sample testing processes at project-supported labs
  • Strategically plan for and manage transportation processes; keep track of delivery times, transport costs, and efficiency
  • Meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets in line with project work plan and budget
  • Establish key performance indicators, monitor ongoing performance, and improve performance against set goals
  • Identify savings by removing waste or unnecessary steps in the logistics process
  • Conduct or review environmental audits for logistics activities to ensure processes are as environmentally friendly as possible
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all parties involved in the logistics process
  • Ensure laboratory testing is executed in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings
  • Facilitate operationalization of screening centers in the target facilities and also in strengthening referral pathways for patients post-screening

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in medical laboratory technology
  • Three or more years’ experience in lab work and molecular testing, with additional experience in logistics (sample transport) preferred
  • Excellent problem solving, time management, and organizational skills including the ability to handle multiple priorities sometimes under pressure of deadlines
  • Proven record of successful logistics management
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder expectations
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Willing to take on extra responsibilities in order to achieve the goals/objectives set by the organization
  • Ability to travel within Indonesia
