About Breathe Jakarta Program
The Breathe Cities/Breathe Jakarta program is a global initiative led by Bloomberg Philanthropies with Vital Strategies as an implementing partner, the Clean Air Fund, and C40 Cities, aimed at addressing the serious challenges posed by air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, with a specific focus on their impacts on public health, the economy, and the environment, especially in low-income communities. Breathe Cities aims to unite more than 100 cities globally by 2030, driving collective efforts to achieve a significant reduction of 30% in air pollution and climate emissions compared to 2019 levels.
The Position
We are seeking a passionate Community & Engagement Officer– Breathe Jakarta specialist to lead public communications, and community outreach activities for the Breathe Jakarta program. The successful candidate will play a vital role in informing residents about air quality issues, sensitizing and engaging vulnerable populations about air quality and impacts, and facilitating community-driven clean air actions.
Duties
- Develop and implement strategies to engage key air quality from civil society organizations (CSOs), government agencies, and local communities, in the Breathe Jakarta program
- Facilitate dialogue and collaboration between government and civil society stakeholders to ensure inclusive decision-making and action planning
- Reach out to CSOs to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership in addressing air quality challenges, with a focus on social inclusion and health equity
- Organize community forums, workshops, and other events to gather input and feedback on clean air initiatives and policies
- Build partnerships with community leaders, activists, and organizations to promote community-driven solutions to air pollution challenges
- Conduct outreach and awareness campaigns to educate residents about air quality issues and encourage participation in clean air actions
- Monitor and evaluate stakeholder engagement activities, gathering data and feedback to inform program improvements and strategic adjustments
- Assist with other Vital Strategies duties and ad hoc requests as specified by supervisor
Qualities and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public health, or related field
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in community engagement, advocacy, or social mobilization roles, preferably in the public health or environmental sector
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of organizing community events, facilitating discussions, and mobilizing grassroots support for social or environmental causes
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Interest/experience in public health and/or communication for social and behavior change
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate collaboration with staff across multiple time zones
