Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator

Background

Bornean orangutans are listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, namely due to habitat destruction, degradation, and fragmentation—because of logging, conversion of forests to agricultural land and forest fires—and hunting for the illegal wildlife trade. They are also hunted as pests on industrial agriculture plantations. To address the multitude of threats to Bornean orangutans, whose total population was estimated at just 57,350 individuals in 2016, a number of rescue centres have been set up. The largest of these centres—the Nyaru Menteng and Samboja Lestari Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres—are run by the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation, which currently care for more than 580 orangutans. Established in 1991, BOS Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the Bornean orangutan and its habitat, in cooperation with local communities, the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and international partner organisations.

To further our ambitious goals, BOS Foundation is seeking a Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator.

Job Description

The Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator oversees the organization’s strategic development and leads fundraising efforts to secure the resources required to advance the organization’s work. The Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator reports to the Head of Fundraising and is responsible for day-to-day activities that build and maintain sustainable revenue in collaboration with donors.

The Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator will collaborate closely with the management and staff team, communications, program team, and other departments to help the organization generate long-term revenue. This job function, in particular, must maintain close working relationships with other job functions in order to develop and leverage relationships that result in meeting or exceeding target fund raising goals, ensuring that the organization’s projects and core operations are appropriately and sustainably funded.

The Fundraising and Engagement Coordinators will also be responsible for managing relationships with donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders. This could include devising strategies for how these individuals can best contribute to the organization’s objectives, as well as organizing events or meetings where they can interact with one another.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • At least 2 years of experience in business development/sales/marketing/fundraising/community engagement from corporates or NGOs
  • Strong writing and communications skills in English and Indonesian, other languages is a plus (Language certification such as IELTS/TOEFL/TOEIC and others is not mandatory but will be considered)

  • An assertive problem-solver with a positive attitude to approach and empower others
  • Ability to translate technical details into user-friendly terms
  • Well-versed using Google Suite and Microsoft Office software for creating and managing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets
  • Excellent Organizational skill, including attention to details and follow through
  • Willingness to travel with short notice

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Organizational and Division Responsibilities

  • Celebrating success and troubleshooting challenges with the staff team
  • Managing the Online Fundraising and Peer-to-Peer Fundraising teams under his or her supervision
  • Lead the planning, coordination, execution, and monitoring of creative, strategic, and meaningful appeals, campaigns, and activities to engage new and existing donors, both online and in-person.
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of special fundraising events designed to fund development plans.
  • Managing all deadlines, workflows, and project plans for fundraising activities, including internal timelines for data collection.
  • Working with the program team and monitoring team to develop monitoring reports as needed.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new fundraising opportunities and tactics to the Head of Fundraising that align with the organization’s values, strategic priorities, and program work.
  • Assist the Head of Fundraising in preparing fundraising reports and materials for quarterly and annual reports.

Donor relation

  • Maintaining contact with current donors and ensuring that donations from individuals, corporations, institutions, grants, and other donations are accurately recorded.
  • Working with the team to maintain a donor database to track contributions and ensure an excellent donor retention program.
  • Managing the organization’s donor database with contact information and gift histories.
  • Leverage relationships with existing funders to meet or exceed fundraising goals.

 

Strategic Support

  • Developing compelling proposals, reports, budgets, and other materials for donors that articulate the organization’s accomplishments and aspirations.
  • Supporting the Management team in developing relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate funders, and major donors, including: researching prospects; developing presentations and information packages; scheduling and participating in meetings and site visits as needed.
  • Identifying project successes and challenges by reviewing project reports, submitting agenda items, and preparing background information.
  • Participate in management and staff team meetings.

Cross Division Function

  • Coordinate the team and collaborate with other departments within the organization to ensure that fundraising goals are met.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to create a comprehensive communications plan to promote the campaign or program and raise public awareness about the organization’s fundraising activities.
  • Collaborate with the Communication Coordinator to create communications materials that showcase knowledge of the organization’s programs, such as thank you letters, certificates, and donor retention materials.
  • Collaborated with Communication Coordinator to create fundraising content for newsletters, social media, and websites to promote activities and recognize donors and funders.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to use effective storytelling and communication methods to demonstrate the value of collaborative action to external partners.
  • Collaborating with other teams and programs to implement educational programs like Orangutan Goes To School.
