humanist values. It aims at structural poverty alleviation with a strong focus
on civil society building and sustainable economic development. Hivos Southeast
Asia provides financial support for local NGOs, is active in networking,
lobbying and exchanging knowledge and expertise. For its Hivos Southeast Asia
seeks qualified Indonesian candidates for the position of:
Title : Communication Officer
Duty Station : Jakarta, Indonesia
Duration : 1 (one) year
Report to : Regional Director Hivos Hub South East Asia
The Communication Officer develops
communication strategies, organizes online and offline communication activities
(e.g. conferences, seminars), develops and disseminates communication materials
and enables the Hivos community and its partners to communicate effectively.
The Communication Officer assists the
Program Development Managers and teams in the communication dimension of the
programme or project; provides the communication framework to which the project
performance adheres and positions according to the corporate values, identity,
standards, formats and tools for internal and external profiling and
positioning. He/she may take specialized communication positions varying from
lobbying to designing social media activities relevant to the project.
This position combines the skills of
Communication Officer and regional website editor/copywriter. As a
Communication Officer, you are responsible for corporate communication and
branding at the regional level. You ensure that local and regional
communication activities are aligned with Hivos’ corporate communication
strategy, values, identity, standards and formats.
The Communication Officer manage the Hivos
Hub Southeast Asia website and social media channels, write texts and develop
or provide visual content (photos, Illustrations, videos and infographics) for
South East Asia online media, keep the regional parts of the website and
regional social media accounts up to date and maintain regular contact with the
managing editor of www.hivos.org (in global office).
To support both aspects of the work, the
Communication Officer should be abreast of developments in the region (new
projects, programmes, funds, newsworthy information about partners and
programmes, social and political developments, etc.).
The Communication Officer work together
with partner organisations, programme and project officers at a regional and
local level and with the communication specialist, communication officers and
www.hivos.org web managing editor at Hivos’ global office in The Hague.
Roles & Responsibilities:
1.
To assess communication needs of Hivos Southeast Asia for developing
communications objectives and plan.
2. To design, develop,
implement and evaluate the overall communication and public relations strategy
for selected projects, appropriate to target audiences and the message being
conveyed.
3. To develop
strategic outreach for the communications materials.
4. To stimulate Hivos
domains (Open and Green) to publish articles on Hivos’ works.
5. To lead in
documenting and publishing in creative ways Hivos’s works (e.g. through photos/
art/ pictures).
6. To write reports
and prepare documentation that is accessible (in English, support translation
into Bahasa Indonesia and vice versa).
7. To share and
explore best practices within Southeast Asia domains (Open and Green) and share
it with other regional offices/Global Office.
8. To respond and
maintain regular contact with the Hivos Global Office, especially the
communication team.
9. To support
communication program needs by Southeast Asia domains and projects.
10. To develop and
deliver all public relations and communication materials, ensuring quality of
content, production and delivery, including preparing and supervising the
production of publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos, photographs,
films and multimedia programs as well as the management of South East Asia and
Iconic Island websites (development and content management) and social media
accounts.
11. To compile and
organize news material (information and photographs) to be exposed in the web,
newsletter, social media and other media.
12. To be responsible
for knowledge management by writing, documenting and disseminating know-how,
experience (highlighting success stories, good practices and lessons learned)
and information through various communication channels.
13. To manage good
relationship with the media for story coverage (print, radio, TV), writing
press releases and news updates for the media, pitch for media partners in
programs, develop media report on PR/media value on program as part of donor
report and mobilization of journalists for site visit.
14. To manage regional
office website and regional social media accounts up to date with task as
below:
I.
Write/create
region-specific content (including arranging visuals or video):
- News items about Hivos partners, projects, events
and concerns (e.g. statements about/for/against certain developments) in South
East Asia. - Items for the home page photo carousel.
- Stories about / interviews with partners or
relevant actors in South East Asia. - Other website content in cooperation with the managing editor of hivos.org.
II.
Manage South East Asia
social media accounts: Post and/or tweet regularly; build up a broad base
of regional followers.
III.
Site maintenance: Publish
regional vacancies on South East Asia; Update local contact persons; Check
links; Keep home page carousel fresh.
IV.
Act as contact person for
managing editor of hivos.org and GO Communication Officers

Inform the managing editor of hivos.org
regularly about the work.

Act as liaison between local office(s)
in the region (who can also provide content) and Southeast Asia office &
GO.
·
Support GO staff and/or Regional programme staff
where necessary on communication matters.
·
Ensure that Hivos communications guidelines are
adhered to by Southeast Asia regional office.
15.
Provide visual content (photos,
graphics a/o videos) for regional content and social media.
16.
Work with communications officers and
SCI colleagues at Global office, when requested.
17.
Keep abreast of and implement Hivos
communications guidelines.
Knowledge and experiences :
–
Affinity
for Hivos’ vision and mission and are driven by a strong motivation to
contribute to real and lasting change.

Knowledge of and experience in the field of
international development cooperation and excellent skills in the development
and implementation of communication strategies.
–
Know how to reach your target groups through
innovative and conventional media.
–
Excellent writing and organisational skills.
–
5 years of working experience, in particular with
corporate and campaigning, communication, copywriting for another similar
website and use of social media.
–
Strong communicator in both English and Bahasa.
–
Innovative and flexible and able to work in a
complex environment with multiple stakeholders and international partners.
–
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, excellent
knowledge of corporate communication and branding, experience with content
management systems, and preferably with image editing.
