potential Lemna in Indonesia

Background

Under the ‘Future Calling’ policy Hivos has embarked on a mission to
enhance its activities in the field of renewable energy and green food since
2014. One of the new initiatives is to intensify the bioslurry activities under
the Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme (IDBP, also called BIRU programme) and
to develop the production of duckweed production by farmers to enlarge the role
of this promising high protein aquatic plant in the food chain for cattle,
pigs, poultry and fish. Funds have been obtained from WOTRO and MCA-I to

develop this project. Hivos with a selected local consultant are going to
conduct “Research on economic potential
Lemna in Indonesia”
to analyse Lemna economic potential in Indonesia,
particularly in GADING Project areas, so that benefit for GADING Project beneficiaries
who utilise Lemna sp. in the
agricultural cycle can be defined. 

 

Objective

·        
To analyse economic benefit of using Lemna as a protein source
substitution in fodder application.

·        
To provide SWOT analysis on strategy of Lemna utilization as fodder
substituent.

·        
To map market potential on Lemna as fodder business.

·        
To provide materials for preparing small business module and training
sessions.

 

Output

The otput of this consultancy service is to provide a Clean Ms. Word and
PDF research report document in Bahasa Indonesia max. 20 pages excluding
annexes. Report outline must include, but not limited to:

Criteria of research consultant

–         
Research consultant can be an independent researcher or an institution.

–         
An expert in the field of economy or development and applied
agriculture.

–          Minimum educational background of the researcher is master degree.

–         
Available full time during period of 20 August until 9 September 2016.
