{margin-bottom:0in;}–> Helen Keller International INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT   Internship for Caregiver- and point-of-sale study in Bandung (Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia)     Established in 1915 with Helen Keller as a founding trustee, Helen Keller International (HKI) is dedicated to saving the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.  Headquartered in New York City, HKI currently conducts programs in 21 countries in Africa and Asia, as well as in the United States.  Renowned for its reliability, efficiency and high level of technical expertise, HKI promotes the development of sustainable, large-scale programs that deliver effective preventative and curative services for nutrition, eye health and neglected tropical diseases.  Each year, HKI hosts student interns to engage in substantive projects in our country and regional offices.   Background     Helen Keller International is implementing the Assessment & Research on Child Feeding (ARCH) Project to gather information on the promotion of foods consumed by infants and young children in Indonesia. In addition, HKI will collect data on breastmilk substitutes and snack foods marketed towards young children in stores in the study area. All activities will be undertaken within the context of promoting and protecting optimal breastfeeding practices according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).   As part of ARCH, HKI will conduct a study among mothers of children younger than 24 months of age in Bandung City, one of the most populated cities in Indonesia, to assess promotion practices related to breastmilk substitutes occurring within maternity and child health centers. In addition, HKI will conduct a study on the types of foods (snack foods and breastmilk substitutes) marketed in stores in the study area.    HKI-Indonesia opens an opportunity for an intern to support data collection for the caregiver study and the point-of-sale study.   Scope of Work:   1) Preparation for the study –         Support adaptation of field protocols and instruments of the assessments. –         Engage in the pre-testing process. –         Assist in the development of the data collector training plan, training protocols and quality assurance protocols –         Assist in the development of the data collection manual. –         Along with the ARCH Project Officer, liaise with health facility authorities in preparation of enumerator’s visit/data collection. –         Along with the ARCH Project Officer, develop data collection schedule.   2) Implementation of study –         Participate in training for use of ONA software for interview and data management –         Participate in training of enumerators. –            –         Assist data collection along with enumerators –         Maintain daily data achievement log.   3) Data management Asist Senior M&E; Coordinator, –              Qualifications: ·        Experience in research on nutrition, public healthor related field.
– Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team as well as maintain good communication with counterparts.
– Capacity to be self-reliant, results oriented, and manage multiple deadlines but flexible and pro-active.
– Flexibility to work in a field setting for up to 1 month and ability to travel across metropolitan area.
– Strong communication skills, including oral and written English.
– Computer literate in use of word-processing, spreadsheet and statistical software; experience in data collection, analysis and interpretation is highly desirable.
Terms & Conditions ·        Full time beginning in February 2017 for 5-6 months ·        Costs associated with Country Office Internships are the full responsibility of the participating student, including airfare, housing, daily living expenses, etc. ·        HKI will assign a Mentor to ensure the intern is provided with sufficient guidance. ·        In addition, ARCH Project Officer will welcome and support the intern with regards to logistics, to act as the local point of contact for all administrative information, and to serve as HQ’s primary point of contact for the management of any emergencies that may arise.  ·        HKI will only reimburse costs associated with actual project work, such as travels related to projects.   To Apply       Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected] the internship title and location in the subject line. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
