Summary of Role
We are hiring a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator to work closely with a coalition of organisations towards delivery of a collaborative conservation programme to protect and restore biodiversity within key forest areas in North Sumatra and Aceh.
The MEL Coordinator will be responsible for designing, developing and managing systems and processes to track delivery, evaluate progress and impact, and learn from the collaborative conservation efforts of the coalition. The MEL Coordinator will also contribute to wider processes to support the functioning of the coalition. The MEL Coordinator will work as a team with a Programme Manager and a Programme Officer. The MEL Coordinator will be required to communicate and effectively collaborate with staff from a number of other organisations in Indonesia and internationally.
Terms of Contract
The position can be offered full-time or at a minimum of 3 days per week. Some flexibility is required to accommodate periods of high activity and travel. The salary will be aligned with similar mid-level roles in locally-based Indonesian NGOs.
Employment Contract and Supervision
There is flexibility for the position to be a consultancy arrangement (preferably based within Indonesia) or an employed position, housed within and contractually employed by one of the coalition partner organisations based in either Medan or Banda Aceh. The MEL Coordinator will work under the supervision and line management of the Programme Manager and be also guided by a Programme Management Unit of representatives from coalition organisations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage systems and processes to collect and track the delivery progress and impact of collaborative conservation efforts of coalition members.
- Develop and manage systems and processes to evaluate and learn from the collaborative conservation efforts of coalition members.
- Embed protocols that enable standardisation of key information across the coalition
- Support planning, facilitation and delivery of coalition planning and coordination sessions
- Support planning, facilitation and delivery of coalition evaluation and learning focussed sessions
Significantly contribute to report production as necessary - Undertake other tasks and projects that contribute to the effective functioning of the coalition
- Contribute to maintaining a healthy coalition, establishing best practice and procedures for collaborative efforts.
- Contribute to specific strategies, objectives or working groups aligned with skill set and experience.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years in the biodiversity conservation sector (Essential)
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (Essential)
- Experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (Essential)
- Experience in strategic planning for conservation programmes
- Conservation project management experience
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English (Essential)
- Experience developing or working with databases
- GIS skills
- Experience working in partnership with different organisations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work well, and effectively adapt, in a fast changing environment
- Proactive
