the Government of Australia on an initiative to boost smallholder farmers’
incomes: The Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Rural Economic Development
(AIP-Rural).

AIP-Rural is a program with 4 projects:
PRISMA (agricultural development), TIRTA (irrigation), SAFIRA (value chain
finance) and ARISA (applied agriculture research). It follows a Making Markets
Work for the Poor (M4P) approach and will contribute to a 30%, or more,
increase in net incomes for 300,000 smallholder farm households. It works in a
range of sub-sectors in collaboration with farmers, businesses, government and
civil society partners to increase the competitiveness of farm businesses
through (i) increased productivity; (ii) improved business practices; (iii) a
growing share of an expanding market; and (iv) the continuous adoption of
innovations. The project works in five (5) provinces in Eastern Indonesia: East
Java, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur, West Papua and Papua.
ResponsibilitiesPhotograph is an important media for a
development program, like AIP-Rural, to highlight the positive and beneficial
impact as well encourage social change through photography. Powerful images may
support projects communication efforts by providing channels for mass publicity
and mass education; the products may raise top-of-mind awareness of the program,
educate members of the public, as well as inspire and motivate goodwill for
change. 

In AIP-Rural, staff member travel to
various locations within the program’s targeted areas. There is a need to build
the staff’s photography skills to an advanced level with focus in development/
humanitarian. Therefore, AIP-Rural
is seeking for a qualified consultant specialising in conducting Photography
training with focus on humanitarian or development issues with specific
reference but not limited to rural development, agricultural growth, and poverty
eradication.
The roles
and responsibilities of the trainer is to develop the photography skills of the
AIP-Rural staff to an advanced level, including capacities to:

  • Take professional
    photos with human interests focus;
  • Express
    stories in photographs;
  • Capture
    images for social change;
  • Use angles
    to make professional-looking photographs;
  • Use all
    manual and automatic options on professional cameras;
  • Use lights
    for different effects;
  • Preparing
    5W1H as support information to go along with photographs.

In

consultation with AIP-Rural Communications Team, the consultant will work to:

  • Develop a
    detailed agenda and schedule for the training;
  • Develop Photography Training Materials with focus on photography for
    development project;
  • Conduct
    the training program, delivered in one day;
  • Other tasks based on agreement.

The consultancy will entail a one-day training
expected to take place for one day in July 2017 at AIP-Rural Head Office in
Surabaya. The consultancy may require extra time for a maximum of two days for
the consultant to develop training agenda and training materials; this can be
done remotely and communicated through phone/ email/ and/or skype.
Requirements

  • Proven skills and experience as a professional
    photographer, especially practical experience in capturing humanitarian and/ or
    development photographs;
  • Successful experience in conducting training courses;
  • · Ability to conduct training in English (Ability to
    communicate in Bahasa Indonesia is a considered asset).
