Location: Sorong, Papua Barat Daya

 

Organizational Background

Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI) is an innovative planetary health non-profit located in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It works to conserve the biodiversity of tropical rainforests by meeting the surrounding communities’ health and economic needs.  Since 2007, ASRI has worked around Gunung Palung National Park (GPNP), a 108,000-hectare rain forest in West Kalimantan that is home to 5-10% of the world’s remaining orangutans and a watershed for 60,000 people. ASRI Clinic provides high-quality, discounted health care to local communities in exchange for commitments to forest conservation. ASRI is a world-renowned organization that has been recognized with multiple awards globally and within Indonesia including the Whitley Award and Kalpataru Award. Considering the importance of scaling up the effort to conserve the biodiversity of tropical rainforests to combat climate change and promote the community’s health, ASRI will bring its successful planetary health model to Southwest Papua. ASRI aims to integrate health, conservation, and sustainable development to improve the well-being of local communities while preserving the region’s rich biodiversity.

Position Overview

The Project Officer will support the successful planning and implementation of ASRI’s projects in Southwest Papua. The role will involve coordinating activities, ensuring the project deliverables are met, and maintaining strong relationships with partners. In addition, the PO will be directly working on the day to day activities of the project implementation in Papua administratively and financially.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Support the Project Manager in executing the implementation of the project activities, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  2. Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that project timelines and milestones are met.
  3. Maintain strong relationships with project partners, local communities, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and ensure project support.
  4. Conduct regular field visits to monitor and evaluate project implementation, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  5. Support the Project Manager in managing project budgets and resources efficiently, ensuring financial accountability and transparency.
  6. Coordinate administrative support for project activities, including HR, finance, procurement, and logistics, while maintaining effective communications and collaboration with related divisions.
  7. Prepare comprehensive finance and administrative reports, documenting project expenditures, and activities in an accurate and timely manner.
  8. Prepare and submit detailed progress reports to the Project Manager.

Qualifications

1.     Non-Smoker

2.     Willingness to live and work in Papua Barat Daya, and to travel within the region and Kalimantan Barat.

3.     Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Forestry, Environmental Science, Public Health, Development Studies, Finance, Economics, or a related field

4.     At least 1 year of experience in project management, preferably in environmental conservation or community health projects

5.     Proven experience in working with local communities and government agencies in Indonesia

6.     Strong project administrative and financial skills, including planning, budgeting, and reporting

7.     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

8.     Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

9.     Willing to conduct field visits across all working areas, requiring physical fitness and an ability to work in various environmental conditions

12.  Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

13.  Willingness to travel frequently to remote areas

14.  Proficient in data collection and analysis techniques

15.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office
