Project Specialist Support Consultant on Human Rights and Gender
Job Description
UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, is an innovative joint venture of the United Nations system, bringing together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations in the AIDS response to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for people living with HIV, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic. These organizations, called “UNAIDS Cosponsors” are UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, UN Women, ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank.
Reporting to the Human Rights and Gender Adviser, the Programme Support Consultant on Human Rights & Gender for UNAIDS Country Office Indonesia will be responsible to carry out the following tasks:
• Contribute to the implementation of the advocacy for legal reform to strengthen the national legal framework for the protection of PLHIV and key populations from discrimination;
• Contribute to the implementation of the advocacy to remove legal barriers experienced by PLHIV and key populations at sub-national and national level;
• Provide technical assistance to the National Commission on Human Rights for the strengthening of promotion of the rights of PLHIV and key populations and accountability mechanism for HIV-related discrimination;
• Coordinate the preparation and write executive level documentation including (but not limited to) Terms of Reference (TORs), research papers, speaking points, project reports, and concept notes;
• Contribute to relevant meetings and committees including organize appointments, meetings and conferences, compile agendas, minute taking, and the sending out of invitations related to the Human Rights and Gender issues;
• Liaise with relevant organizations including donors, government and non-government agencies, ensuring that compliance and due process is maintained at all times;
• Ensure requests for advice or correspondence are provided in a professional and timely manner;
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Key Requirements
Functional Competencies and Knowledge:
• Familiarity with and understanding of public health issues, especially HIV & AIDS;
• A working knowledge of the international mechanisms for the implementation of human rights;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to demonstrate integrity and respect for diversity in all communications;
• Ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team. Adapt and integrate easily with the team, work cooperatively in support of team objectives;
• Ability to convey ideas and thoughts in a clear and convincing way in one-on-one discussions or groups presentations and ability to produce clear correspondence and written reports;
• Ability to show initiative and enthusiasm in their work, effectively organize and manage time, and deliver high-quality results in line with agreed objectives;
• Ability to effectively apply their knowledge and skills to the job, and to consistently learn and improve performance;
• A high level of proficiency in standard computer software, in particular, Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint is essential.
Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines, such as, International Relations, Law, Development Studies, Gender Studies, or related fields.
Experience:
• At least 2 years of demonstrated interest or related professional work experience in law, human rights, or creating an enabling environment within international development;
• Previous work/exposure experience working with government, non-government organizations, and/or the UN system would be considered an advantage; and
• Recent research experience, or a demonstrated understanding of research methodology would also be highly regarded.
Languages : Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia (native language) and English.
