SELARAS

About Selaras

USAID Indonesia Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Management and Partnership (USAID SELARAS) is a five-year Activity that supports Indonesia in achieving its development goal of reducing marine plastic pollution by improving urban waste management through public institution strengthening and private sector partnerships. In collaboration with the Government of Indonesia, USAID SELARAS aims to advance the achievement of the international and National Medium-Term Development Plan 2020-2024 target of 80 percent of waste handling and 20 percent of waste reduction in urban areas and reducing the country’s contribution to ocean plastic pollution by 70 percent by 2025, as well as the National Waste Management Policy and Strategy (Jakstranas) target of solid waste reduction by 30 percent and solid waste handling by 70 percent nationwide.

 

Using a strategic system approach that targets high-impact, catalytic interventions and customizes activities by evaluating enabling factors, identifying champions, and co-designing solutions, the USAID SELARAS team provides technical assistance to GOI, private sector, and civil society stakeholders to achieve five objectives:

 

1. Strengthened Solid Waste Sector Governance and Financing;

2. Improve and Expand Solid Waste Management Services;

3. Strengthen Local Markets and Businesses for Plastic Waste;

4. Improved Social Behaviors and Practices Toward Inclusive and Sustainable Solid Waste Management; and

5. Improve Systems for Tracking and Reducing Methane Emission from Indonesia’s Solid Waste Sector.

 

The program was awarded to Development AIternatives Inc. (DAI) in October 2023. Systemiq is acting as a subcontractor to DAI with partial responsibility for the delivery of Objectives 1, 2 and 4.

 

Position

Additionally, under the umbrella of USAID SELARAS’s commitment to gender equity and social inclusion (GESI), you will deliver work that also emphasizes the involvement of women in waste management initiatives. This will include:

– Facilitating women’s participation in waste management planning and decision-making at the community level.

– Promoting women’s leadership roles in community-based waste management initiatives.

– Supporting local governments in developing gender-responsive approaches to waste management.

Requirements

Systemiq is looking for individual with a strong record of excellence and achievement within technical solid waste advice and institutional capacity building. You have proven yourself in different contexts and are keen to work in a young, innovative company where you can get involved in a variety of work, shape the business and make maximum impact. You are passionate about our mission and approach to system change. Specifically, you have:

 

Minimum:

· Undergraduate degree (S1) in a relevant subject matter, such as social science, communications, business marketing, business administration, environmental management, or anthropology. May hold specialized certification(s).

 

· At least 7 total years of professional experience, including experience coordinating with government partners to delivery utility service improvement (water, waste, health). A masters degree (S2) can be used to replace two years of work experience.

 

· At least 2 years experience working within the solid waste sector, ideally within a role giving direct technical experience of collection and disposal.

 

· Demonstrated experience in designing government and institutional capacity building programmes, including experience with planning, training and providing 1:1 support.

 

· Strong planning, budgeting, results tracking, problem solving, and organizational skills.

 

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

· Advanced proficiency in speaking and writing in English. Fluency in Indonesian.

 

Preferred:

· 9 years professional experience, including some experience coordinating with government partners to waste systems.

 

· Demonstrated success in the delivery of waste related training or capacity building programs.

· An understanding of planning inclusive approaches, including city-wide inclusive SWM.

 

· Experience on donor-funded projects, preferably USAID-funded projects.

Skills:

  • Highly organised, ability to project manage and develop and stick to budgets.
  • Ability to develop compelling and engaging training programmes and materials.
  • Ability to engage with a wide number of stakeholders from donors, government and community.
  • An understanding of environmental and social issues.
  • Ability to multitask and work in fast-paced environment.
  • High level of autonomy and ability to deliver with minimal supervision
  • Collaborative approach and dedicated team player
