Hivos
Southeast Asia is an International non-governmental organization guided by
humanist values. It aims at structural poverty alleviation with a strong focus
on civil society building and sustainable economic development. Hivos Southeast
Asia provides financial support for local NGOs, is active in networking,
lobbying and exchanging knowledge and expertise. For its Hivos Southeast Asia

1.       Background

Hivos
started the Iconic Island initiative in 2010 that the Indonesian Island of
Sumba was chosen. This inititative  aims
to provide access to reliable renewable forms of energy to the population of
this island, and in doing so, ending their dependency on fossil fuels and support
development and economic activities of the local population. With years of
experience working with partner organizations to establish access to
sustainable energy in developing countries, Hivos is convinced that converting
to sustainable energy while combining poverty reduction is possible on a large
scale. The results of the Iconic Island initiative should become an example for
other parts of the world. Currently SII is being adopted as the government
program under Ministerial Decree NO. 3051 K/30/MEM/2015, which promoted
multi-stakeholder approach where government, private sector and CSOs are
working collaboratively under that Decree.

On 18
December 2015 Hivos signed a partnership agreement with the Millennium
Challenge Account-Indonesia (MCA-I) which allow Hivos to rapidly scale up
renewable energy access and income benefits by replicating the successful
approaches and business models developed under the Indonesia Domestic Biogas
Program (IDBP), more popularly known as Biogas Rumah (BIRU), a semi-market
based biogas sector development and the Sumba Iconic Island (SII) as one big
project named ‘Investing in Renewable Energy for Rural, Remote Communities’ or
TERANG Project. This partnership agreement aims to achieve two outcomes,
including improvement of rural livelihoods through utilization of renewable
energy in rural communities; and the sustainable business models of off-grid RE
technologies adopted.

 

2.     
Objective

 

To ensure

proper communication, branding and publications about the project are being
addressed according to plan and both Hivos and donor standard. The
Communication  Green Energy Consultant develops
communication strategies, organizes online and offline communication activities
(e.g. conferences, seminars), develops and disseminates communication materials
and enables the Hivos community and its partners to communicate effectively. The
Communication  Green Energy Consultant assists the
Green Energy teams in the communication dimension of each programme or project;
provides the communication framework to which the project adheres, in
accordance with the corporate values, identity, standards and formats and tools
for internal and external profiling and positioning. He/she may undertake
specialized communication strategies varying from lobbying to designing social
media activities relevant to the project.

 

This position
combines the skills of Communication and website editor/copywriter. S/he
ensures that project communication activities are aligned with Hivos’ corporate
communication strategy, values, identity, standards and formats as well as
donor’s visibility requirements. The Communication  Green Energy Consultant also
organises online and offline communication activities, develops and
disseminates printed and online communication materials and enables the Hivos
community and its partners to communicate effectively. Furthermore, s/he leads
the development of the Green Energy communication strategy and the
implementation of communication activities. The Communication  Green Energy Consultant manages the
Sumba Iconic Island website and social media, writes texts and develops or
provides visual content (photos, illustrations, podcasts, videos and
infographics) for internal and external media.

 

 

3.     
Deliverables

 

The Consultant is expected to deliver specific quarterly deliverables
that must be achieved every quarters:

Establish
Hivos-TERANG mailing list database to provide more information to target
spesific audiences.

–        
Establish,
maintain and update a database of media contacts. Furthering good relations with
key journalists, particularly environment correspondents.

–        
Assist
with production of project documentations.

–        
Design
and lead the outreach campaigns in the target communities

–        
In
coordination with M&E officer to design any collaterals to present results of
baseline/ mid term evaluation and end -line evaluation, targeting different
relevant target audiences.

–        
Work
with a consultant to produce high quality image from the project to be used as
promotional and showcase

–        
Lead
the learning event concepts, communication production and implementation

–        
Generate
news and conduct regular media gathering or visit, in other to build a solid
relationship with the media as well as feeding information to the journalist
about the Green and Inclusive programme.

Response
to the additional program needs

–        
Develops
and managing Green and Inclusive Energy micro-site for Indonesia. The
communications consultant is request to submit the concept of the micro-site,
the content management strategy, and conduct the regular content update.

–        
Develops
and managing the social media publication via Twitter and Facebook. The
communication consultant is request to submit the social media strategy for
social media campaign, conduct the regular content update on green and
inclusive energy, as well as the monthly social media report.

–        
Managing
the information update of SP-Green and Inclusive Energy via various
communication channels (Journalist WA groups, newsletter, etc) as well as
working close with the Hivos global communications officers and partners comms
officer to strengthen Hivos brand.

–        
Supervising
the communication material production from the Green and Inclusive Energy nexus
partners, including the content, lay-out, image, and design which should meet
Hivos brand style.

–        
Event
management related to the launching of research finding result and the COP
preparation. The communication consultant is request to submit communication
material suggestion for COP preparation, for example: Position paper, brochure,
photo stories, etc.

–        
Communication
training for Nexus partners under SP-Energy. The communication consultant is
requested to conduct communication training related to brand awareness and
Hivos brand identity and guideline style. The consultant should submit the
syllabus of the training prior.

 

5.   Timeline

 

The consultant will work for 7 (seven) months, September 2017 to March
2018.

 

6.   Knowledge, experiences and competencies

 

We are seeking an Indonesian person  with the following qualities:

  • Have affinity for Hivos’ vision and mission and be driven by a
    strong motivation to contribute to real and lasting change.
  • Have knowledge of and experience in the field of international
    development cooperation and excellent skills in the development and
    implementation of communication strategies.
  • Is creative and outgoing.
  • Know how to reach your target groups through innovative and
    conventional media.
  • Have excellent writing and organisational skills.
  • Have at least 5 years of working experience, in particular with
    corporate and campaigning, communication, copywriting for another similar
    website and use of social media.
  • Is very strong communicator in both English and Bahasa.
  • Have a strong press network and social media savvy.
  • Is innovative and flexible and you are able to work in a
    complex environment with multiple stakeholders and international partners.
  • Have at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field,
    excellent knowledge of corporate communication and branding, experience
    with content management systems, and preferably with image editing.
