Request for Proposal – Interior Design Consultant for the Development of an Informative Shelter Environment

  1. Background

Rumah Perlindungan & Trauma Center (RPTC) is a facility under the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia that provides temporary protection, social rehabilitation, and psychosocial recovery services for the migrant workers, victims of violence, human trafficking, and traumatic situations.

Yayasan Integritas Justitia Madani Indonesia (IJMI) is committed to promoting justice and protection for the people in Indonesia. IJMI works to strengthen Indonesia government’s support systems and services for vulnerable populations particularly Indonesian workers, the victim of forced labor slavery and human trafficking.

As part of its mission, IJMI collaborates with the Ministry of Social Affairs in improving the conditions of shelters such as the RPTC in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta. This center provides legal services desk, temporary protection, psychosocial recovery, and social rehabilitation for victims of violence, trafficking, and other traumatic experiences.

The physical environment of the shelter is crucial to the healing and empowerment process. To enhance the informative and educational function of RPTCs, this project aims to develop a trauma-informed design and legal awareness concept aiming for improved legal and human’s rights knowledge among victims and survivor of forced labor and slavery. This objective will be by incorporates informative, educational, and motivational content within the space.

 

  1. Objectives

The objectives of this consultation are:

  • To redesign the interior of selected area in RPTC into trauma-informed and inclusive spaces that promote recovery and well-being.
  • To integrate visual communication elements that provide critical information (e.g., rights, services, self-care), affirmations, and educational messages.
  • To create a warm and welcoming space that helps survivors feel hopeful and supported during their recovery.

 

  1. Scope of Work

The selected consultant will be expected to:

  1. Conduct an initial assessment and site visit.
  2. Develop a comprehensive interior design concept, including:
  3. Space layout, color palettes, lighting, and material selection
  4. Adjustments for trauma-informed design
  5. Design and propose informative visual elements such as:
  6. Motivational visual materials (murals, posters, signage, other display)
  7. Educational displays about the issue, available services, and self-care
  8. Create a dedicated information corner or reading space where survivors can access printed materials, posters, and other resources in a quiet, comfortable setting.
  9. Managing the procurement, production, and installation visuals, and other interior elements.

 

  1. Deliverables

The consultancy will result in the following deliverables:

  1. A finalized interior design concept, including layout plans, and visuals
  2. Production and installation of visual communication materials (e.g., murals, posters, signage, etc.)
  3. A fully furnished and decorated legal desk/ legal clinic corner with reading/information space within the shelter.

  1. Required Consultancy Skills and Experience

The consultant(s)/firm must meet the following requirements:

  1. At least 3 years of professional experience in interior design, preferably in social, educational, or trauma-informed spaces
  2. Proven ability to manage design-and-build projects from concept to completion
  3. Experience incorporating communication or educational content into spatial design (murals, posters, banners, signage, etc.)
  4. Understanding of trauma-informed design principles
  5. A multidisciplinary team, ideally including an interior designer, illustrator/graphic artist, and project coordinator
  6. Strong portfolio with relevant completed projects

Evaluation

Proposals will be evaluated based on the consultant’s qualifications, understanding of the project, creativity in approach, and cost-effectiveness.

Confidentiality

The Supplier agrees that the information contained herein or other records which are made available to the Supplier should not be disclosed to any third party nor used for purposes other than performance of this RFP without the express written consent of Yayasan IJMI.

Yayasan IJMI holds strict safeguarding principles and a zero tolerance to violations of the Safeguarding Policy, Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment Policy, and Code of Ethics. Candidate selection is based on technical competence, recruitment, selection and hiring criteria subject to assessing the candidates value congruence and thorough background, police clearance, and reference check processes. Yayasan IJMI requires a background check, police clearance and thorough review of references with an employment offer and/or employment contract.
