Manager – Business Development / Strategic Initiatives

Role Overview

The Manager – Business Development / Strategic Initiatives will play a pivotal role in driving MSC’s growth strategy across South East Asia and the Pacific. The role involves leading the development of high-quality proposals, concept notes, and thought leadership materials, while cultivating strategic relationships with clients and partners.

As a client-facing position, this role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate ideas into actionable business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Proposals

  • Lead the development of concept notes, Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and proposals, ensuring high-quality and client-focused submissions.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to design innovative solutions aligned with client needs and MSC’s expertise.
  • Manage the full proposal development cycle — from opportunity identification and coordination to budgeting inputs and compliance.

Strategic Client Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key donors, governments, private sector partners, and other stakeholders in the region.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by monitoring donor priorities, tenders, and market trends.
  • Represent MSC at regional conferences, workshops, and client meetings, positioning the organization as a thought leader.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Support leadership in defining and executing new strategic initiatives, including entry into emerging sectors, geographies, or thematic areas.
  • Conduct research and market intelligence to inform MSC’s growth priorities.
  • Draft and refine strategic communication materials, such as corporate presentations, practice brochures, and partnership proposals.

Internal Collaboration & Capacity Building

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (technical, research, communications) to strengthen MSC’s business development systems and processes.
  • Mentor junior staff in proposal writing, client engagement, and business development best practices.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and organizational learning initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in business development, consulting, or donor-funded project environments.
  • Proven track record in developing winning proposals and building successful donor/client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of donor priorities (e.g., World Bank, IFC, FCDO, USAID, Gates Foundation, MCC, ADB).
  • Experience working in South East Asia and/or the Pacific is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex ideas clearly.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, self-driven approach.
