THE POSITION
Location: Ubud, Bali
Kopernik is looking for a highly motivated Climate Strategy & Advocacy Specialist to join our Community Initiatives team and support our IKLIM initiative. IKLIM stands for the Indonesian Climate Communications, Arts, and Music Lab, a climate action initiative that brings together musicians, artists, environmental organizations, and climate experts to respond to the climate crisis through music and art.
This role will sit at the intersection of science, storytelling, and systems change, translating complex climate data and policy developments into compelling messages and campaigns that inform, inspire, and mobilize diverse audiences.
This role will lead research and analysis on climate and energy issues in Indonesia, design advocacy strategies with our partners, and contribute critical insights to shape IKLIM’s narrative and policy focus. The ideal candidate is fluent in climate science and policy, culturally sensitive, and excited to collaborate with creatives, campaigners, and communities to push for change.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and Content Development
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on climate science, energy transitions, and environmental policies and their developments, with a focus on Indonesia.
- Collaborate with the social media team to transform complex information and technical data into clear, engaging content tailored to target audiences.
- Monitor climate-related news, developments, government positions and policy shifts to inform timely, evidence-based and relevant messaging.
- Stay up to date on climate science, communication trends, and advocacy strategies to enhance campaign impact.
- Conduct audience research, surveys, and message testing to identify knowledge gaps, values, and motivators for action.
- Identify insights and refine communication approaches.
- Test and evaluate messaging performance and iterate based on data and audience feedback.
Partner Engagement and Advocacy
- Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with organizations working on climate issues (NGOs, research institutions, advocacy coalitions, and movement builders).
- Facilitate regular coordination with partners to build joint advocacy opportunities and align messaging across campaigns and build unified calls to action.
- Leverage collective platforms and networks to distribute content and increase visibility of joint campaigns and policy asks.
- Establish and nurture relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to amplify climate narratives.
- Support the development of press materials, pitch stories, and coordinate media engagements to increase public and policymaker engagement.
- Represent IKLIM in public forums, conferences, and events to share learnings and strengthen the climate communications ecosystem.
SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS
- Deep understanding of climate justice, energy policy, and environmental sustainability, especially within Indonesia’s context.
- Skilled in translating technical information into accessible language for different audiences.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, policy documents, and public opinion research.
- Positive attitude, hardworking, and reliable.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with digital communication tools (e.g. CMS, social media platforms, email marketing).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in multicultural, interdisciplinary teams.
REQUIREMENTS
- Indonesian national.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in environmental science, public policy, communication science, climate communications, journalism or a related field.
- Familiarity with Indonesia’s energy transition landscape, NDCs, and civil society climate networks.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate communications, policy, or advocacy campaigns.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality research.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex information into persuasive, audience-specific messages.
- Experience in data analysis, impact measurement, and report writing.
- Strong understanding of trends in climate action, creative communications, and sustainable development.
- Experience working in the creative sector, including the arts and culture, is a plus.
- Passion for environmental sustainability and social justice, with a commitment to advancing climate solutions through communications.

Expected remuneration for this position ranges from IDR 9,000,000 to a maximum of IDR 13,000,000 (depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate), along with other benefits.
