Communication Officer

Project: Inclusive and Climate Resilient Management of Indonesia’s Blue Swimming Crab Fishery

Location: Bandung, West Java

Contract Duration: 6 months, renewable

Reporting to: Associate Program Manager

Position Objective

The Communications Officer will support the implementation of the Inclusive and Climate Resilient Management of Indonesia’s Blue Swimming Crab (BSC) Fishery project in the North Coast of West Java, Indonesia by developing and executing a communication plan to strengthen the project’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge sharing. This role ensures that project achievements and lessons are effectively communicated to partners, donors, and the public, fostering broader awareness and support for sustainable and inclusive fisheries management.

The project aims to strengthen BSC governance in West Java and expand its economic opportunities by making the fishery more climate-adaptive, inclusive, and resilient.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communication and outreach plan aligned with project objectives.
  • Manage project communications channels, project updates, and social media.
  • Support documentation of project achievements through stories, photos, and case studies.
  • Coordinate with field teams to capture field-based updates and success stories.
  • Work closely with MEL Officer and other team members and support the implementation of project activities, workshops etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of donor communication materials and visibility reports.
  • Work with GEDSI Field Coordinator to ensure that all communication products adhere to gender, equity, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) principles.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, preferably in environmental conservation, sustainable development, or social inclusion programs.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Experience in content creation (social media, publications, basic photo/video editing).
  • Familiarity with design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and social media management platforms.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with experience engaging diverse audiences.
  • Candidate based in Bandung preferred, as the role involves frequent coordination with local partners and travel to project sites along the north coast of West Java.
