Data Analyst

OBJECTIVES

Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) is an organization with commitment to promote women’s economic empowerment and gender equality. We aim to create a safe and inclusive workplace in Indonesia by raising awareness on the importance of gender equality in the workplace; increasing women’s participation and representation in the workforce; and encouraging and supporting companies in attaining gender equality benchmarks and standards.

The Data Analyst will play a critical role in supporting IBCWE’s mission to create a safe and inclusive workplace in Indonesia. This includes collecting, synthesizing and analyzing data into actionable, evidence-based insights. Under supervision of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Coordinator, the Data Analyst has responsibilities to track progress, measure impact, and identify challenges as well as learnings across member companies. This position will work closely with the program and business development teams in IBCWE to help members achieve measured improvements in workplace gender equality (WGE) and its impacts.

This role involves conducting quantitative analyses, applying data science and people analytics methodologies, and translating HR and business data into strategic recommendations. The Data Analyst also supports the Investing in Women (IW) MERL team on an ad hoc basis in capturing and analyzing monitoring and evaluation data across IW components in Indonesia.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Data Analyst will support IBCWE program team to do the followings:

A. Quantitative Analysis & Reporting

  • Data Collection & Management: Design, implement, and manage data collection protocols (e.g., GEARS assessment, surveys, existing HRIS data abstraction) to measure key Gender Equality and HR metrics from IBCWE member companies. Ensure data quality, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Analytical Deep Dives: Conduct advanced quantitative analysis, including descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and basic prescriptive analytics for supporting decision makers, on people data (e.g., recruitment, retention, promotion, pay, benefits, work-life balance, leadership representation) segmented by gender and other relevant demographic factors.
  • Gender Pay Gap Analysis: Lead the comprehensive analysis of compensation and benefits data using available tools to accurately calculate, understand the drivers of, and model solutions for the gender pay gap.
  • Impact Measurement: Quantitatively assess the impact of IBCWE programs and company interventions (e.g., childcare support, flexible working policies, women in leadership initiatives) on key HR outcomes and business performance metrics.

B. Insights and Strategic Recommendation

  • Dashboard Development: Develop and maintain data visualizations and interactive dashboards (e.g., using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools) to communicate complex analytical findings clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences, including Executive Director and Deputy of Executive Director.
  • Research & Publications: Contribute analytical content to IBCWE research reports, case studies, and public-facing publications to showcase best practices and highlight challenges in workplace gender equality.
  • Strategic Consulting: Translate data insights into actionable, high-impact Human Resources strategies and business recommendations for member companies to accelerate gender parity and economic empowerment.

C. Technical and Tool Management

  • Tool Utilization: Utilize statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, Stata) and database languages (SQL) for data cleaning, manipulation, and statistical modeling.
  • Methodology Enhancement: Stay current with the latest trends and methodologies in people analytics, HR metrics, and gender-related data science to continuously improve IBCWE’s analytical framework.

D. Data Infrastructure and Management

  • Data System Development: Design, build, and maintain simple, structured data entry and storage systems using Microsoft Access and/or advanced Microsoft Excel (Power Query/Data Model) to manage HR and survey data collected from member companies.
  • Data Preparation for BI: Ensure all data is cleaned, validated, and structured in a relational or star schema format suitable for seamless loading and analysis in Microsoft Power BI.

Job Requirements

Requirement

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Sociology, Psychology, Data Science, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in a Data Analyst, People Analyst, or HR Analytics role.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying quantitative methods to real-world business or social issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and reporting (e.g.using Excel, SPSS, Stata, Powerpoint)
  • Demonstrated experience in working with and analyzing Human Resources data (eg. HRIS, recruitment, performance, compensation, employee surveys).
  • Experienced in designing and managing small-scale and big data collection systems using business applications.
  • Experienced with gender equality or social impact data is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing data using gender analysis framework
  • Expertise in writing complex SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Strong experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Solid understanding of statistical concepts, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and multivariate statistics.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, with the ability to clearly articulate complex findings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and an analytical, detail-oriented mindset.
  • High level of personal integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive HR data with discretion.

  • Possesses creative and practical approaches to overcome challenging situations

Desired

  • Understanding of good practice in quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, including quantitative surveys, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Experience of supporting human resource development, diversity and inclusion, and/or organisational change processes in the private sector will be an advantage.
  • Experience in conducting business intelligence research
  • Experience in developing modelling and forecast using big data

Output

  • Clean and Structured Datasets: The most foundational output is a clean, standardized, and reliable data repository. The analyst ensures that data across various systems (e.g., project management – Client Engagement Framework, Monday.com, and survey tools) is consistently merged, cleaned, and ready for analysis.
  • Standardized Data Documentation: Creating and maintaining clear documentation on data definitions, metrics, calculation methodologies, and data sources (a data dictionary) to ensure everyone in the organization is working from the same understanding of the numbers, including on Gender Equality Assessment Result and Strategy (GEARS) and Client Engagement Framework (CEF).
  • Query and Script Library: Developing reusable SQL queries, scripts (e.g., in Python or R), and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes that automate data preparation and reporting, significantly reducing manual effort and potential for human error.
  • Data Narratives and Presentations: Distilling complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and compelling presentations for non-technical audiences, explaining what the data means and why it matters for IBCWE’s mission.
  • Performance Dashboards: Creation and maintenance of real-time, interactive dashboards (e.g., using tools like Monday.com, Power BI, etc.) that track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all active projects and overall organizational goals. These visualize progress towards targets like diversity metrics, project completion rates, and stakeholder engagement levels.
  • Trend Analysis and Forecasting: Identifying long-term patterns in project success, operational efficiency, or external factors. This includes predictive modeling to forecast resource needs, potential risks, or the likely success of future project designs.
  • Evaluation Frameworks: Designing and executing analytical tests to compare different project methodologies or policy interventions, providing statistically valid evidence on which approach is most effective for achieving specific outcomes.
