Sustainable Finance Advisor (Project: ASEAN Green Recovery)
Project Overview
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis. GIZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975 and formally with ASEAN since 2009 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
GIZ’s ASEAN Green Recovery project aims to strengthen the integration of Sustainable Finance into the financial systems of ASEAN member states. It focuses on developing enabling regulatory and policy frameworks while providing technical advisory support to financial market participants (incl. investors) to promote and facilitate sustainable finance.
Key thematic priorities include fostering the development and use of Sustainable Finance instruments—such as thematic (eg green) bonds, project finance—as well as supporting the creation and implementation of Sustainable Finance taxonomies. In addition, emphasis is placed on developing and establishing an engagement platform on Sustianable Finance and ensuring interoperability of taxonomies within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the EU.
The project works in close collaboration with the ASEAN secretariate and financial market actors as well as regulatory authorities to promote sustainable economic development and align financial flows with climate and sustainability goals.
We seek 1 (one) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidates for this position. (Job Title in SAP: Advisor).
Core Tasks
In your role, you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organizational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also take on tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3 and ensure the quality of the commission’s outcomes.
In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment and are partly responsible for general project management tasks.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You re- solve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarizing themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
Main Activities
- Conceptualization, organization and implementation of project activities (e.g. conferences, workshops and trainings),
- Build and maintain external (and internal) networks with relevant sustainable finance stakeholders (partners, target beneficiaries, donors, etc.),
- General project management tasks (e.g. preparation and coordination of tenders, management of consultants/consulting services, monitoring and reporting),
- Draft target group-specific information and communication materials (e.g. concept notes, factsheets, power points, etc.),
- Coordination with other projects within the ASEAN portfolio and the GIZ Indonesia Cluster

Job Requirements
- Completed university degree in economics, finance, environmental studies, or a comparable field
- At least 3-5 (three to five) years of professional experience in the field of sustainable/climate finance and/or project finance (e.g. energy, water, agriculture sector),
- Solid knowledge of international discussions on sustainable and climate finance,
- Proven track record in project management, and organizing trainings/workshops,
- Ability to think and act independently, strategically, and analytically, with a quick grasp of complex issues and a strong focus on what matters most.
- Confident and persuasive communicator, capable of engaging effectively with both technical audiences and high-level stakeholders
- Strong commitment, team spirit, reliability, diplomatic skills, gender competence, and intercultural sensitivity
- Fluency in English is required both spoken and written (C1 Level); knowledge of German is an asset
- Competency in computer skills with adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point) and Outlook where relevant to the position
- Good communication & coordination, planning & organization, accountability, teamwork and willing to continuous learning.
