CARE International Indonesia (CII), as an international NGO, has carried out large scale operations in Indonesia, encompassing emergency operations, transitional activities centered on agriculture and nutrition and a range of development initiatives in such areas as water and sanitation, health and enterprise & economic development. CARE International Indonesia in Head Quarter Office-Jakarta is currently recruiting the following position for its project:

JOB TITLE                              : GENDER and ADVOCACY SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT/PROJECT     : PROGRAM/PfR
REPORTS TO                         : COUNTRY LEAD

JOB SUMMARY

Working under the PfR Program Manager (PM) the Gender Adviser will be responsible for ensuring the integration of gender into all aspects of PfR implementation in Indonesia both for CAREs project activities and for joint Alliance activities and advocacy. The role will support the PM and all other PfR staff, both in Jakarta and in Kupang, and as such will be a role requiring high levels of collaboration and communication. The Gender Adviser will also be responsible for raising awareness and introducing practices that address gender and social equity in the target communities themselves through capacity strengthening of project partners, CSOs and local government. The advisor will ensure that all advocacy messages are gender sensitive.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master Degree in Gender studies, Development, Social Science or other relevant field;
2. At least 5 years of experience managing complex projects and work with government agencies and building partnerships with NGOs or other civil society organizations that focus on gender issues;
3. Experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a community-based project;
4. Ability to manage team work to achieve certain targets by delegating the works effectively and creating an environment in which the individuals are highly motivated;
5. Relevant knowledge and/or experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and ecosystem management restoration;
6. Experience in participatory planning and review techniques;
7. Experience of the asset based approach (appreciative inquiry);
8. Ability to develop and maintain effective and frequent communication which is critical for keeping the project moving, identifying potential problems, soliciting suggestions to improve project performance;
9. An understanding of gender issues and gender-sensitive approach to programming;
10. Capacity building, communication and facilitation skills;
11. Willingness to travel to remote locations;
12. Strong interpersonal skills;
13. Ability to work with little supervision;
14. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
15. Practical computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.);
16. Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team in a cross cultural environment;
17. Experience working in NTT or eastern Indonesia region;
18. Familiarity with CARE systems;
19. Fluently spoken and written English.
