  1. INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND

Water.org is a global non-profit organization working to bring water and sanitation to the world. Water.org has decades of expertise supporting emerging markets financial institutions (FIs) to develop water and sanitation (WSS) loan products and portfolios. Water.org’s primary focus has traditionally been working with microfinance institutions and banks to expand retail lending to finance household water and sanitation facilities.

WaterEquity is the first asset manager dedicated to mobilizing private sector investments to accelerate universal access to water and sanitation in emerging markets. One of the Water Equity’s primary investment strategies is investing in Financial Institutions to expand water and sanitation lending to underserved households and businesses. Since 2016, WaterEquity has raised three funds with total investor commitments exceeding $436M and over $432M in loans disbursed to 60 borrowers in fourteen countries.

Water.org and WaterEquity work together to align the market building activities of Water.org and the investment activities of WaterEquity. Globally, about 220 million people – one in four – lack access to safe drinking water while 350 million people – two in five – lack access to safely managed sanitation. To date, the two organizations have reached over 70 million people in 22 countries with water and sanitation solutions across Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia.

  1. OBJECTIVES

Water.org seeks to engage with a consultant/trainer who is experienced in training the financial institutions in products, credit, marketing and business development. Experience in Water supply and Sanitation financing will be an added advantage. The training is meant to upskill and build knowledge of the Financial Institutions’ (FI) staff in lending to Water supply and Sanitation sector i.e. to provide financial support to the households and MSMEs with improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.

Audience: Staff of the Financial Institution in Cambodia.

  1. SCOPE OF WORK

The consultant’s broader scope of works includes:

  1. Providing insights on the financing landscape in Cambodia and anything specifically on water and sanitation financing.
  2. Recommend the Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) solutions suiting the local market conditions for e.g. the toilet technologies, water filtrationsolutions
  3. Translation of the training modules provided by Water.org.
  4. Develop additional training modules as needed to include the technical aspects of WSS solutions as recommended for the local market.
  5. Deliver physical trainings in TOT (Training of Trainers) mode in local language and supply the training modules to the FI for cascade trainings.
  6. Assess the effectiveness of training by gathering feedback from the participating FI and make necessary changes in the training

By the end of the training, the learners will be able to identify and apply themselves in:

  1. Understanding the Water supply and Sanitation (WSS) landscape in Cambodia.
  2. Identifying needs of the households and MSMEs in the water supply and sanitation (WSS) sector in Cambodia.
  3. Identifying lending challenges faced by the financial institutions in dealing with households and MSMEs in Cambodia.
  4. Identifying opportunities for financial institutions (FIs) in lending to WSS sec
  5. Understand WSS Impact and how to measure, monitor and report relevant impact r
  6. Understand innovations in the WSS Sector and emerging trends for increasing efficie
  7. Credit assessment & decisioning to get financeable projects, blended financing, cashflow financing etc
  1. DELIVERABLES

 

  1. Translated training modules as provided by Water.org
  2. Additional training modulescovering the technical aspects of WSS solutions suitable to the local market conditions.
  3. Physical trainings in TTT (Train the Trainer) mode in local language.
  4. Post training assessment report.

 

  1. PROJECT TIMELINE

The approximate contract time is one year with various assignments as and when a need arises with flexibility to undertake training within a short notice period i.e. 14 working days.

  1. BUDGET

A proposed budget shall be included with consultant’s submission, (per day/ head billing quotation) and the final budget approved shall be fixed and not subject to negotiation. All amounts shall be presented in USD. Budget notes are encouraged.

  1. PROPOSAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Provide detailed proposal outlining the proposed approach, of no more than 2 pages answering the following questions.

  • What teaching aids will you use to deliver the certification training?
  • How will you evaluate training effectiveness and impact (reaction, learning, behaviour and results)?
  • Provide references and testimonials relevant to the banking industry and other industry/s or Water and Sanitation sector if availab
  • How soon can you implement the course?
  • How long will it take to complete the course (course duration)?
  • Any post training support provided?
  • Timelines to provide post training support?
  • Estimated cost compared to market rate and peer charg
  • Will you provide relevant training and reference material and tools and /or online toolkits/platform?
