Job Description

The Campaign Communications Internship at International Accountability Project (IAP) offers a unique opportunity for passionate student activists to gain hands-on experience in driving impactful global campaigns. This program is designed to immerse participants in the dynamic world of advocacy, empowering them to translate complex human and environmental rights issues into compelling narratives and actionable strategies.

By the end of this internship, the intern will have mastered essential global communications strategies and developed proficiency in coordinating digital content across various platforms. Participants gain practical experience executing international webinars, learning to translate complex policy issues into accessible narratives for advocacy campaigns. Throughout the program, the intern will engage directly with communities, partners, and staff to help shape communications across IAP’s core strategies. This is a part-time position (24 hours per week) with a three-month commitment. We prefer candidates based in the Asia-Pacific region. A monthly stipend of USD 400 is provided.

Job Description

  1. Support the communications team in implementing the global communications strategy and maintaining the editorial calendar
  2. Coordinate the distribution of blog posts, public statements, and articles across digital channels in collaboration with program staff
  3.  Provide communications support for webinars and training sessions
  4. Support joint communication campaigns with partners and monitor partner-led initiatives to ensure alignment
  5. Coordinate translation, proofreading, and formatting of training materials by liaising with consultants, including creative professionals for visual or audiovisual content when needed
  6. Assist in drafting and documenting stories for IAP newsletters and external publications, with a focus on human-centered narratives.
  7. Conduct regular media monitoring to identify opportunities for IAP’s work to be featured in external outlets (as needed)
  8. Assist in tracking and analyzing performance metrics across digital platforms, including social media, the website, and newsletters (as needed)
  9. Support the delivery of training sessions and help develop internal guidance on social media best practices for IAP staff (as needed).

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate has a personal and professional commitment to human and environmental rights with at least 1 year of experience. They should have a proven track record of creating accessible communications for activist purposes. This role requires strong coordination skills to support the communications team and assist in leading IAP’s organizational communications.

  • An undergraduate degree is required, and a graduate degree (in progress or completed) is preferred. Comparable work and life experiences will be considered
  • Knowledge of international human rights principles
  • Experience writing and editing articles and blog posts in English
  • Fluency in English and additional language skills are strongly preferred
  • Project management skills with people across cultures, languages, and time zones
  • Proven ability to translate complex policy jargon into accessible content and the skill to turn personal narratives into compelling calls for action
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google applications, Canva, and WordPress
  • Ability to work resourcefully and multitask effectively
  • Sense of humor and flexibility
  • Preferred: Hold a degree in Communication and Media Studies/Journalism/English Language and Literature/Creative Writing/Development Studies
  • Preferred: Previous experience volunteering or working within NGO sector.
