PROGRAM BACKGROUND
SHE CAN (Accelerating Financial Inclusion for Marginalized Women in Indonesia) is a three-year program funded by DBS Foundation and implemented by The Asia Foundation (TAF). The program aims to empower 80,000 marginalized women in West Kalimantan through strengthened financial literacy, improved access to inclusive financial services, and increased participation in economic decision-making, with the goal of contributing to sustainable financial well-being for marginalized women.
To support the implementation of this initiative, TAF is seeking a qualified consultant team that will provide multiple communication services such as content creation, photo and video making, and storytelling writing. The team will have to cover the program areas in West Kalimantan and Jakarta.
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The communication team will support the SHE CAN program’s communication and storytelling objectives by contributing to the development of high-quality content that reflects program achievements, participant experiences, and progress toward financial inclusion outcomes. The team will ensure that all materials produced are accurate, ethical, engaging, and aligned with branding and informed-consent requirements.
The scope of work will include the following key deliverables or outputs:
- Bi-weekly social media content, including Instagram reels or carousels.
- Monthly communication plans and provide weekly communication updates.
- Develop and publish story features on the TAF website or social media highlighting program achievements and stories from the field.
- Support the development and publication of at least one story or news item in national media related to the program achievements every semester
- Other deliverables as agreed with TAF
The communication team includes two roles: a team lead and team members, with responsibilities as follows:
Communication Lead:
- Lead SHE CAN communication work in coordination with the TAF team to produce high-quality content
- Provide functional leadership to the communication team to deliver assigned outputs on time
- Coordinate with donor to validate story leads and align content direction with program priorities.
- Lead content ideation by coordinating with the program team and local implementing partners, reviewing program materials, and identifying story opportunities, themes, and subjects, including monitoring social media trends and potential hooks or gimmicks that can strengthen content appeal.
- Develop narrative outlines, key messages, and lists of required photos or videos, including suggested angles and moments, along with suggested prompts to support testimonial collection.
- Produce draft digital content such as carousels or reels and prepare supporting captions, scripts, and narrative text, including taking photos or videos when needed and providing storyline direction to the team members.
Field Content Creator:
- Capture photos and videos during program activities based on storyline direction and required shot lists, including recording participant and facilitator testimonials.
- Coordinate field access and scheduling with the program team and local partners to document activities, participants, and community settings, and actively seek opportunities to join local partner activities to support content needs.
- Provide organized raw materials, including visual files, notes, and consent documentation, to support content development and assist in producing content when required.
- Communicate field observations, constraints, or emerging story opportunities to the Content Creator and the program team to refine or adjust storylines.
- Participate in coordination meetings and support content needs by delivering timely field materials that align with the agreed narrative direction.
REQUIREMENTS
Communication lead:
- Based in Indonesia with the ability to work remotely and join coordination meetings as required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience coordinating with stakeholders and managing digital communication deliverables
- Minimum 6 years of experience in developing digital content or managing social media narratives.
- Ability to manage multiple content cycles, including revisions and approvals, and deliver within deadlines.
- Strong storytelling ability, including identifying story angles, themes, trends, and creative hooks.
- Ability to prepare storylines, captions, scripts, and provide direction for photo and video making.
- Ability to produce draft content in commonly used digital formats using standard editing tools.
- Strong coordination skills and experience working with program teams, local partners, and donors.
- Access to communication and creation devices and software or applications needed for content development, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Field content creator:
- Based in or able to work regularly in the program areas, particularly Pontianak and Jakarta. Travel costs to Pontianak from outside the program areas will not be covered.
- Relevant experience in human-interest photography and video-making with at least 2 years of experience working in the field or community setting
- Ability to coordinate with local partners and participate in their activities to identify content opportunities.
- Understanding of ethical storytelling and consent procedures for documenting program participants.
- Strong communication, organization, and file management skills, including managing raw materials and consent documentation.
- Access to photography and video-making devices and apps.
- Familiar with photography and videography editing applications/platforms
