Consultancy – Breast Cancer Technical Advisor

Overview:

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments and community leaders to provide high-quality health care for their people. Jhpiego develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems, and improving delivery of care.  Jhpiego seeks a Breast Cancer Technical Advisor in a consultant capacity to provide technical guidance in the implementation and coordination of a four-month project to plan and prepare for implementation of a district-level breast cancer continuum of care model.  The timeframe for this position is subject to extension based on performance during the initial four-month period and subsequent discussions with the donor; there is also potential to convert from a consultant role to a full-time position depending on project extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Depending on timing of onboarding, assist Jhpiego team with “dipstick assessments” of the breast cancer continuum of care eco-system to inform later workshop discussions on a proposed implementation model for continuum of care
  • Collaborate with project manager and Jhpiego HQ’s Technical Lead for Women’s Cancers in preparation for thematic preparatory workshops as part of planning for a breast cancer continuum of care implementation model
    • Kick off and strategic alignment
    • Deep dive – community and primary care
    • Deep dive – hospital care
    • Deep dive – enabling systems (data, financing, CSO engagement)
    • Integration and finalization of learnings
  • Co-facilitate above-referenced workshops in collaboration with Jhpiego HQ’s Technical Lead for Women’s Cancers
  • Document all workshop findings and prepare recommendations for MoH, donor and Jhpiego following each workshop
  • Consolidate first four workshop learnings and, in collaboration with other Jhpiego colleagues, prepare proposed breast cancer continuum of care implementation model for review and discussion at fifth workshop
  • Incorporate all feedback from fifth workshop into a final version of the proposed implementation model for submission to the donor for funding consideration

 

Qualifications:

  • Medical doctor with advanced degree, preferably with breast cancer specialization with proven experience in breast cancer care—treatment, early detection, pathology, management (preferably clinical background or strong programmatic engagement)
  • Breast cancer program implementation experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Indonesian health system and Indonesia’s national-level policies, guidelines, and strategies, especially related to breast cancer
  • Experience drafting technical reports, strategic guidelines, and contributing to policy briefs or national-level plans
  • Experience working alongside MoH, hospitals, universities, and NGOs
  • Experience implementing interventions across prevention, diagnosis, referral, and palliative care components
  • Capacity to tailor global guidance such as WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative to local Indonesian context
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Ability to travel nationally
