As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Sorong Selatan:

South Sorong Program Manager

 Yayasan Konservasi Indonesia (KI), the main partner of Conservation International (CI) in Indonesia, envisions a healthy and prosperous Indonesia where biodiversity is valued and preserved. With offices and project sites across Indonesia, we promote a sustainable landscape-seascape approach and establish partnerships with multiple stakeholders across sectors and jurisdictions to deliver lasting impacts for people and nature in Indonesia.

 

In the last two years KI has expand its support in forestry sector to South Sorong. It is a regency that is home to large extend of critical ecosystems. Significant part of South Sorong area is classified as area of high value for biodiversity. South Sorong forests provide critical ecosystem services, and its sustainability is important not only for wildlife, but also global climate stability as well as the prosperity and resilience of the local, nature-dependant indigenous communities. South Sorong Program manager will be responsible for KI’s program implementation in the regency, in providing support and managing collaboration with stakeholders, communities, and partners for improved forest management in the area.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead KI’s South Sorong program implementation that focuses on improving forest management and local community livelihood by working with communities and government at all local, regency and provincial levels.
  • Develop program strategy and design including project proposals and workplan.
  • Support program director and KI executive team on building program strategic plan and vision
  • Responsible for project report writing including technical and donor reports.
  • Build partnership with key government partners and relevant stakeholders for program alignment, sustainability and supporting government agenda and priorities. Manage project staffs, which will include hiring and managing subcontractors, partner staff, and other non-CI project personnel.
  • Manage close collaboration with KI’s teams across departments and partners to ensure effective delivery of envisioned impacts.
  • Work closely with consultants, review consultant documents (workplan, methodologies and reports) and lead internal coordination for feedbacks,
  • Represent Konservasi Indonesia in all matters related to South Sorong Program and ensure effective communications and information sharing between all partners and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with KI’s Monitoring and Evaluation, communication and partnership and operation teams for building coherence system and approaches of KI.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to KI’s operational policies and procedures, coordinate with KI Operations team when needed for grants, contracts, travel arrangements, budget, etc.
  • Provide support for Sahul Papua field programs as needed and West Papua governance work in internal KI strategy meetings.
  • Adhere to KI’s Safety & Security Procedures

PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May directly supervise program and project staff, which may include overseeing the work of external partners and provides technical support.
  • Participate in capacity building for staff and team.
  • Act as a technical or subject matter expert to peers and other staff.
  • Responsible for managing some funds, monitoring results, and recommending follow-up action. Reviews for understanding and compliance with donor agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of work experience with Indonesian forest conservation, forest management and/or social forestry. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Open-minded individual with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Direct project management experience (including planning and budgeting) preferably in various level of forest management, biodiversity conservation, forest-associated livelihood development, or any related sectors.
  • Up to 5 years of experience supervising others, managing and motivating multi-cultural teams.
  • Understanding of environmental and socio-economic issues in forestry sector, especially in Tanah Papua.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify solutions.
  • Strong written communication skills. Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to set priorities and deliver quality results.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position to be based in South Sorong field office. While the work will generally be based in the office with a standard work schedule, the staff will be expected to spend long periods in outdoor.
