To start as soon as possible:  September 2024, we are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated candidate in a position as

 

Field Officer

 

S/he will be based in OKU Selatan District, Sumatra Selatan.  S/he will work within a team of 24 other staff currently working with about 15,000 farming families and 600 farmer groups in Sumatra Selatan. The Field Officer will work closely with the project Manager to implement and support agricultural programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of smallholder coffee farmers. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with on-the-ground activities, including farmer training, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as contributing to the overall goals of the HRNS projects in the region.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Project Manager in leading agricultural activities focused on coffee production, intercropping, and agroforestry.
  2. Support the implementation of organic and regenerative farming practices, including reducing the use of synthetic agrochemicals.
  3. Help identify challenges on farms and suggest innovations to improve farming systems and practices.
  4. Conduct field visits to monitor and support the adoption of new farming techniques by smallholder farmers.
  5. Collaborate with local farmer groups, cooperatives, and other stakeholders to ensure successful program implementation.
  6. Participate in training sessions and workshops aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills.
  7. Contribute to the preparation of reports, case studies, and other documentation related to project outcomes and impacts.

 

Required profile:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in agriculture, agroforestry, or a related field, preferably working with smallholder farmers.
  • Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, including organic farming, soil management, and agroforestry.
  • Experience in conducting fieldwork and working directly with rural communities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia; English proficiency is an advantage.
  • Willingness to liver and travel frequently to farm and village locations.
  • Candidates who are domiciled and/or from the Oku Selatan area and other surrounding regencies will be prioritized.
  • Ability to drive a heavy motorbike and manual-transmission car.
