Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) is an Asian labor-led global labor and social alliance across garment-producing countries in Asia and consumer regions of USA and Europe. Founded in 2007, AFWA aims to build regional unity among Asian garment unions to overcome the limitations of country-based struggles in global production networks and holds global fashion brands accountable.

 

Job role:

AFWA is currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Southeast Asia Coordinator. This dynamic role will require extensive regional travel, providing a unique opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders. As the Southeast Asia Coordinator, you will collaborate closely with trade unions, civil society organizations, and various stakeholders throughout Asia. Responsibilities

 

  • Foster collaborations among potential and current partners, while also expanding connections with civil society, including labour, feminist, student movements, etc. at the national and regional levels.
  • Identify, analyse and monitor developments and emerging issues within the labour movement and garment supply chain of Southeast Asia
  • Design, plan and implement advocacy strategies and campaigns in line with the AFWA’s overall vision
  • Work within AFWA’s national teams in Southeast Asia to ensure overall coordination of programmatic initiatives and alignment at the national, regional and global levels
  • Represent the organization in the social/labour/feminist movement circles, as well as with our leadership at external meetings or events
  • Develop and coordinate targeted support to strengthen partners’ work in training, research, advocacy, and campaigns (as needed)
  • Keep up to date on national and regional developments, reports, policies, etc. relevant to living wages, gender justice, corporate accountability and integrate insights into AFWA’s work
  • Work within the AFWA International Secretariat and perform other relevant duties as required

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Master’s degree (development studies, public policy, labour studies, women’s studies) or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in program coordination, advocacy, network building with labour rights or human rights organizations
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, communicate effectively, and build lasting relationships with civil society leaders, union partners, and program staff.
  • Strong understanding of labour rights and economic justice in a global context
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently within agreed framework
  • Excellent written and spoken English; fluency in Burmese, Bahasa Indonesia, Khmer or Vietnamese, a plus
  • Ability to maintain focus in a multifarious work environment; comfortable with deadlines and field obligations
  • Integrity, professional discretion, and ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters.
  • Experience in research and writing on labour rights and global supply chains; and knowledge of labour movement, a plus.
